When most people decide on speaking a second language, the popular choice is English.  According to Tsedal Neely, “The fastest-spreading language in human history, English is spoken at a useful level by some 1.75 billion people worldwide—that’s one in every four of us. There are close to 385 million native speakers in countries like the U.S. and Australia, about a billion fluent speakers in formerly colonized nations such as India and Nigeria, and millions of people around the world who’ve studied it as a second language. An estimated 565 million people use it on the internet (HBR).  As the most spoken language it makes sense that learning English enables you to communicate with more people in more places around the world.  English is the common language of business and could guarantee you a position at an international company in a foreign country anywhere.  English is the choice of the media so if you don’t want to rely always on subtitles or worse dubbing then learning the language is the way to go.  English is also the language of the internet, the gateway to endless amounts of information and entertainment.  Learning English opens the door to academic opportunities—a program that is only available in English.  Finally, because learning English will allow you to communicate with people from all over the world, you will be exposed to more cultures and encountering the difference will spark reflection and personal growth.

Our method keeps in mind all of these reasons for learning English and with that in mind sets out to balance study of all four skills:  reading, writing, speaking, listening.  We will personalize the lesson plans so that a particular skill will be emphasized if desired.  All correction as much as possible will be down in the context of learning the skill.  For instance, examples of grammar mistakes will come from conversation or reading or writing.   We believe in student centered learning so the student is expected to be active in the process and will not be lectured at.  We make it as interactive as possible with exercises, games (word games, action games, internet games).   The more frequent the lessons and reiteration of the rules and expressions, the more improvement.  As they say, practice makes perfect.
